ADL BYD Enviro400 City EVs have re-entered service on London bus route U5. These are the route's official allocation. And have replaced Wright StreetDeck Electroliner EVs.
The U5's Enviro400 City EVs were transferred from Walworth (WL) garage. They were used on route 63 (King's Cross to Honor Oak), Route 381 (Waterloo, County Hall to Peckham), And night route N381 (Whitehall, Horse Guards to Peckham).
The StreetDeck Electroliners that were temporarily allocated to the U5, Were ordered for route 381.
Route U5 runs from Uxbridge to Hayes & Harlington. The route serves York Road, Uxbridge Station, Uxbridge High Street, Crown Walk, Hinton Road, Whitehall School, Cowley Mill Road, Ferndale Crescent, Station Road, Cleveland Road, Huxley Close, St Laurence Church, Pield Heath, Peel Way, Hillingdon Hospital, Colham Road, Violet Avenue, Moorcroft Lane, Park View Road, Apple Tree Avenue, Otterfield Road, Yiewsley Library, Yiewsley High Street, West Drayton Station, Ferrers Avenue, Brandville Road, Church Road, Kings Road, North Road, Mulberry Parade, Lavender Rise, Iron Bridge Road, Bennetsfield Road, Roundwood Avenue, Furzeground Way, The Square, Swallowfield Way, North Hyde Road, Fairey Corner, Hayes & Harlington Station and Blyth Road.
Route U5 runs every 12 to 20 minutes. The route runs daily, from 05:15 until 00:46. The U5 is operated by Transport UK. It runs from Dawley Road (DH), located near Stockley Park.
The U5 commenced operation in January 2004. The was originally operated by First Centrewest. It ran from Uxbridge (UX) garage. The U5 was originally a single decker route, using Caetano Nimbuses. It was introduced to replace the U1 between Hillingdon Hospital and Hayes.
New ADL Enviro200s were introduced in 2010. In June 2013, Uxbridge (UX) garage was sold to Metroline.
In September 2015, the U5 was extended from Hayes & Harlington to Hayes Asda. The route was transferred to Hayes (HZ) garage in 2016.
In 2017, Abellio began running the route. The U5 initially ran from Twickenham (TF) garage. At the same time, the route was converted to double deck operation for the first time. It used existing Enviro400 MMC and Enviro400 hybrids. At the same time, the route was diverted at Stockley Park.
The U5's allocation transferred to Hayes (WS) garage in 2017. In 2018, diesel Enviro400s replaced the hybrids.
In March 2019, the allocation was transferred back to Twickenham (TF) garage. The route then transferred back to Hayes (WS) in July.
In December 2021, Hayes (WS) garage was closed, And the allocation transferred to Armstrong Way (GW) garage.
In May 2022, The allocation was transferred to Dawley Road (DH) garage.
Route U5 connects to several rail lines, including... The London Underground Metropolitan line at Uxbridge, The London Underground Piccadilly line at Uxbridge, The Elizabeth line at West Drayton, The Elizabeth Line at Hayes & Harlington, And National Rail (Great Western Railway) at Hayes & Harlington,
