Rage attacks, Oppositional Defiance, Irritability and Meltdowns in PANDAS / PANS (& Tourette)

PANDAS stands for Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep and PANS stands for Paediatric Acute Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome. The are conditions where the immune system attacks a part of the brain called the basal ganglia , leading to an abrupt onset of OCD ( obsessive compulsive disorder) , food restrictions (sometimes leading to anorexia) and tics (that can look identical to Tourette's). Many people with PANDAS / PANS also experience rage attacks, meltdowns, oppositional defiance, behavioural regression, irritability, personality changes and mood swings including extreme anger. I discuss these symptoms in this video. It is a symptom , not a choice, an explanation rather than an excuse.


Rage attacks are also a symptom of Tourette Syndrome, so this can be useful for people in the Tourettes community as well.
