At the end of every year, the famous Christmas markets spread throughout Germany and many cities in Europe. They have their origins in medieval Europe. The earliest records date back to the 14th century in Germany. And of those earliest, two Weihnachtsmarkte, as the Germans call them, still exist.
In Munich, the capital of the state of Bavaria, the event has been taking place since 1310. Many stalls with food, drink and handicrafts take over the city's main square, Marienplatz. Also in the state of Bavaria, the Bamberg Christmas Market is another eye-catcher. The city, which has 80,000 inhabitants, welcomes many people at this time of year. It all takes place on Maximiliansplatz, in the city's historic centre. Next to the state of Bavaria is the region of Baden. Among the many Christmas markets in the region, I would highlight two: the one in Heilbronn, where the festivities take place in the town hall square, and the one in the historic city of Freiburg. The capital of the state of Saxony, Dresden is a beautiful city with an historic centre that's a sight for sore eyes. It's worth a visit at any time of year. Dresden's Christmas market, the second oldest in Germany, began in 1434 and is spread throughout the historic centre. There are over 200 stalls full of Christmas traditions and flavours. The event attracts an average of more than two million people every year and has a total turnover of around 48 million euros a year. All this in temperatures that are often freezing. I also visited several other Christmas markets in Berlin. Highlights include Berlin City Hall, Alexanderplatz, Kulturbrauerei, Nikolaiviertel, among others. Traditions, lights, beauty and flavours. A strong Christmas spirit that helps warm our hearts, bodies and glasses, why not? It's a time of year of so much reflection, so sensitive for many people.


No fim de todos os anos os famosos mercados de Natal se espalham por toda Alemanha e várias cidades na Europa. Eles têm origens na Europa ainda medieval. Os primeiros registros são do século XIV na Alemanha. E desses mais antigos, dois Weihnachtsmarkte, como chamam os alemães, ainda existem.
Em Munique, capital do estado da Baviera, o evento acontece desde 1310. Muitas barracas com comidas, bebidas e artesanato tomam conta da principal praça da cidade, a Marienplatz. Também no estado da Baviera, o Mercado de Natal de Bamberg é outro que chama a atenção. A cidade, que tem 80 mil habitantes, recebe muita gente nessa época do ano. Tudo acontece na Maximiliansplatz, no centro histórico da cidade. Ao lado do estado da Baviera, está a região de Baden. Entre os muitos mercados de Natal da região eu destaco dois: o da cidade de Heilbronn, onde a festa acontece na praça da prefeitura e o da cidade histórica de Freiburg. Capital do estado da Saxônia, Dresden é uma belíssima cidade com um centro histórico de encher os olhos. Vale uma visita em qualquer época do ano.

Destaques para o da Prefeitura de Berlim, Alexanderplatz, Kulturbrauerei, Nikolaiviertel, entre outros. Tradições, luzes, beleza e sabores. Um forte espírito natalino que ajuda a aquecer nossos corações, corpos e copos, por que não? Uma época do ano de tantas reflexões, tão sensível para muitas pessoas.
