In the middle of winter, the traditional German coldness is thrown to the wayside. For those who thought there was no Carnival in Germany, you'd be wrong - there is, and it's lively! Rolé da Vez lands in the city of Cologne to show you a little of one of the biggest Carnivals in Europe. Cologne is part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is Germany's fourth most populous city with around 1.1 million inhabitants. But during Carnival this population gets much bigger! The event is so important that they call it "the fifth season of the year". The festivities begin on the Thursday before Carnival, get hotter and hotter, and reach their peak on what is known as Rose Monday. This video focuses on the most important day of Carnival in the city. The traditional cry of "Kölle Alaaf", which means "Long live Cologne!", is heard everywhere in the streets. The festivities take place in the Old Town. It all starts at the Severinstor, a gate built in the 13th century that was one of the entrances to the old walled city. The event is organised by the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, which was founded in 1823, the same year as the first parade. One of the characteristics of the city's carnival are the "Ordentliche Gesellschaften", or Carnival Societies. Today there are more than 100 groups organised with costumes, floats and their banners proudly raised. A spectacle of colours, sounds and flavours. Throughout the parade, members of the Carnival Societies throw sweets of all kinds from the floats. All you have to do to ask is shout "Kamelle". In the video you'll also learn about Cologne Cathedral, the place where the first alcohol-based perfume was created, among other curiosities.

Colônia faz parte do Estado da Renânia do Norte e é a quarta cidade mais populosa da Alemanha com cerca de 1 milhão e cem mil habitantes. Mas durante a Folia de Momo essa população fica muito maior! O evento é tão importante que eles chamam de "a quinta estação do ano”. A festa começa na quinta-feira antes do Carnaval, vai esquentando, esquentando, atinge o ápice na chamada Segunda-feira das Rosas. Este vídeo é focado justamente no dia mais importante do Carnaval na cidade. Pelas ruas ouve-se por todos os cantos o tradicional grito “Kölle Alaaf”, que significa “Viva Colônia!” A festa acontece no Centro Histórico. Tudo começa no Severinstor, um portão construído no século 13, era uma das entradas da antiga cidade murada. O evento é organizado pelo Comitê de Festa do Carnaval de Colônia, que foi fundado em 1823, ano que também aconteceu o primeiro desfile. Uma das características do carnaval da cidade são as "Ordentliche Gesellschaften", ou as Sociedades Carnavalescas. Atualmente são mais de 100 grupos que se organizam com fantasias, carros alegóricos e seus estandartes orgulhosamente erguidos. Um espetáculo de cores, sons e sabores. Durante todo desfile os integrantes das Sociedades Carnavalescas arremessam dos carros alegóricos doces de toda sorte. Pra pedir é só gritar “Kamelle”.
