Over the period 6-9th January 2026, I was staying in Queenstown Tasmania, home to the West Coast Wilderness Railway. A reconstruction of the former Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company line between Queenstown and Strahan, it has being operating since 2003, while the original line ran from 1897 to 1963. The line is currently undergoing a full rebuild, so trips are limited out of Queenstown and Strahan, but being able to use steam and diesel locomotives from the MLMRCo days, plus a section of the Abt rack and pinion section of line in use, means it is still worth a visit. Footage of of Abt No.'s 2 & 3 from Queenstown, both on board and lineside, and D1 shunting around Strahan's Regatta Point station.
