On the 130th Anniversary of the Chicago 'L', June 6th, 2022, car #7013 was delivered to CTA's Skokie Shops, its heavy maintenance facility for rail cars. Its mate, #7014, was delivered separately the next morning. These cars are the first of the remaining 390 base order production order cars, manufactured by CRRC in the Hegewisch neighborhood of Chicago's southeast side, that will replace CTA's aging 2600-series 'L' cars built by The Budd Company from 1981-1987. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to be assigned to the Blue Line.
Cars #7011-12 continue to be worked on at CRRC due to a mishap with one of the car shells whilst in transport from China to Chicago. As a result, 7013 and 7014 were delivered first.
