The Surrey 89ers eked out a dramatic 87-85 victory against the London Lions to open up their season in the Super League Basketball (SLB) Trophy and first ever outing as a franchise.
It was a battle of grit and resilience, as both teams traded blows right down to the final possession.
Surrey’s Dame Adelekun was the standout performer, notching 20 points on an efficient 69.2% shooting while pulling down 13 rebounds. Cameron Gooden added 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Andrew Lawrence chipped in 15 points and eight perfect free throws to ice the game.
For London, Jaiden Delaire led all scorers with 23 points and nine rebounds. Aaryn Rai contributed 18 points on stellar 66.7% shooting, while Jordan Taylor added 19 points, including three triples.
