Join us for a special celebration as we mark a significant milestone in the history of the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. The visionary philanthropy of Gene Lay has honored Shu Chien, renowned UC San Diego emeritus professor of bioengineering and medicine, with a $25 million commitment to UC San Diego's world-leading bioengineering department.
In recognition of his generosity, the department was named the Shu Chien-Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering. This gift establishes an endowment that will provide sustained support for graduate student fellowships, early-career faculty, and department teaching facilities.
We are proud to be part of a community that values innovation, diversity, and collaboration. This ceremony is a celebration of the impact that philanthropy and partnership can have on shaping the future of engineering and bioengineering.
Watch as we bring together leaders, faculty, and friends to commemorate this significant occasion and look to the future of bioengineering at UC San Diego.
The ceremony features esteemed guests, including Chancellor Pradeep Khosla, Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons, Albert P. Pisano, Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering, Adam Engler, Chair of the Bioengineering department, Bioengineering Professor Brian Aguado, Paul Citron, Former Vice President of Technology Policy and Academic Relations at Medtronic, Inc.
