In this video, I walk you through the process of modeling various common metal shapes using CAD software. I start by reviewing the dimensions and real-world considerations for different profiles like angle iron, square tubing, rectangle tube, pipe, and C-channel. My approach is to begin with a 2D sketch of the profile, making sure to apply the correct constraints and dimensions before extruding the shape to the required length. I also show you how to use features like Extrude, Fillet, and Shell to accurately represent wall thicknesses and corner radii, and I emphasize the importance of letting the computer handle complex math by using equations directly in the dimension fields.
