The Rota Ooh Shrine (Passing of the Gates trial) is one of eight Shrines in Central Hyrule, located on a hill southwest of Outskirt Stable, near the Royal White Stallion’s Safula Hill (from your prior query). The trial involves hitting a crystal switch to rotate a central platform, manipulating an orb to unlock a launcher, and accessing the altar. Rewards include a Feathered Edge sword and a Spirit Orb.
Finding the Shrine
Location: The Shrine is on a grassy hill southwest of Outskirt Stable, just north of the Digdogg Suspension Bridge and northwest of the Great Plateau. From Central Tower, glide southwest, or walk west from Outskirt Stable across Manhala Bridge, then climb the hill. The Shrine is visible, glowing orange at night.
Hazards: Watch for Bokoblins (~36 HP) or Moblins (~108–720 HP) near the stable. Use Sneakstrike (L3 to crouch, Y from behind) with Majora’s Mask (from EX Treasure: Ancient Mask, your prior query) or Tingle’s Outfit (from EX Treasure: Fairy Clothes) for stealth. Equip a Phrenic Bow (Hebra, 10 damage, 20 Rupees) for ranged attacks.
Tip: Save at Outskirt Stable before heading out. Visit at night (~9:03 PM, rest with Wood + Flint, 20 Rupees at stables) with Radiant Armor (from The Treasure Hunters) or Miner’s Armor (Goron City, 2000 Rupees) for better visibility. Use Climber’s Bandanna (Ree Dahee Shrine) for faster climbing.
Solving the Passing of the Gates Trial
First Puzzle (Small Key Chest):
Enter the Shrine and face a large rotating platform with a locked door ahead and a yellow crystal switch on the right wall above water. Hit the switch with an Arrow (20 Rupees, L, ZR) or a Remote Bomb (L, A, free) to rotate the platform 90 degrees, revealing a new area with an Ancient Orb and a path to a chest.
Use Cryonis (L, A) on the water to create an ice block, climb onto the platform, and follow the left path to a chest. Open (A) for a Small Key.
Tip: Save before hitting the switch; aim carefully to avoid wasting arrows. Use Radiant Armor for nighttime visibility of the crystal’s glow.
Second Puzzle (Orb and Basket):
Return to the central area, grab the Ancient Orb with Magnesis (L, A) or by hand, and carry it to the entrance. Shoot the yellow crystal switch again to rotate the platform back to its original position.
Near the switch, find a basket-like structure in the gate. Throw the orb (R) into the basket. If it falls into the water, swim to push it toward the ramp (use Cryonis to recover it). Shoot the switch again to rotate the platform, dropping the orb into a concave slot, activating a launcher platform in the center.
Tip: Save before throwing the orb; aim precisely to land it in the basket.
Treasure Chest (Feathered Edge):
Stand on the launcher platform to be propelled upward. Glide (X) to a high ledge with a chest or use Magnesis to pull it down. Open (A) for a Feathered Edge (15 damage, 26 durability, ideal for quick strikes).
Tip: Save before gliding; the chest glows faintly at night with Radiant Armor.
Reach the Altar:
Return to the launcher, stand on it to be propelled again, and while airborne, shoot the blue crystal switch (left side) with an Arrow to rotate the platform back, forming stairs to the altar. Land carefully to avoid a small hole. Interact with Monk Rota Ooh (A) for a Spirit Orb.
Tip: Save before shooting; use Phrenic Bow for accuracy. Eat Enduring Fried Wild Greens (from your prior query, 2 Endura Shrooms + 1 Hyrule Herb) for extra stamina if needed.
Rewards
Spirit Orb: Trade 4 at a Goddess Statue (e.g., Kakariko Village) for a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel.
Feathered Edge: A lightweight sword (15 damage), great for Korok balloon puzzles or Bokoblins.
Small Key: Used to unlock the central door during the trial.
