*BEACHCROFT PATH Video Guide*
Sunset descent of two Mountains!
Starting atop Champlain Mountain, the hike of this path descends, with incredible views on the way down into a gorge (noted more on older maps). It then climbs Huguenot Head, requiring a short OFF TRAIL ascent to grab that summit for the 26 Acadia Peaks Patch. The descent of Huguenot Head's west side is challenging, but with more incredible views. It finishes at The Tarn's north end where multiple trailheads are found.
If a picture is worth 1000 words...what's a video worth?

BEACHCROFT PATH begins at Champlain Mountain's summit. The top of the trail wanders on granite through sparse trees, and then begins descending on steep granite slabs. These lead to a section of uneven granite and talus that drops one quickly into a gorge. More noted on older Acadia maps, this gorge is exited quicky, rising on a forest path and exiting onto a south ledge of Huguenot Head.
Along this south ledge, a right turn to the north ascends OFF TRAIL to the Huguenot Head summit (a requirement for the 26 Acadia Peaks Patch). OFF TRAIL bushwhacking and navigation should be done with care not to disturb plants and other nature. Also care to not get lost should be taken, as this trail has neither cairns nor blazes. Atop Huguenot Head a single stone now marks the summit where a thousand stone cairn once stood, making arrival more dramatic! Respect for this side quest will allow its uniqueness to continue.
Returning to the trail, the ledges continue from south to west on Huguenot Head. The gain a distinct edge and the drop becomes EXTERMELY sheer, but the path is wide enough for comfort as it leads back into sparse trees. Here steep stone step switchbacks accelerate the loss of elevation. Midway, the trail has a long straight narrow pathway through a talus slide before a final set of steps drops into forest. Through this forest, the path gently finishes the descent of Huguenot Head, arriving at Route 3. Crossing Route 3 at the north of The Tarn, views of this area and a choice from 5 trails allow variety for a hiker's continuing exploration.
I hope my efforts make your watching experience AND your next visit to
ACADIA NATIONAL PARK ... wicked awesome!
FRIENDLY REMINDER: no matter the difficulty, hiking has risks... HAVE A PLAN...
the best times are had when planned properly.
Alternate, shorter routes than what you intend to hike are abundant in Acadia...
your hiking plan can include them as contingencies.
Injuries can happen, let others know your planned route and timeframe...
cell service is spotty in Acadia National Park.
Remember: know your limits so you can push them,
and DEFINITELY REMEMBER: what goes up must come down which includes you...
AND if you enjoy the tour, your guide does accept likes, subscriptions and comments...
(an option of leaving a tip: ie a link for actual tips through patreon is likely coming soonish).
