Filmyear 2023

Back at it again with another video countdown for the three people who watch them every year. And once again, UK cinema release dates are the worst, so Tar and Babylon make it in, but Poor Things, Priscilla, Holdovers, Iron Claw all miss out...

Anyway, weird year. My first as a professional editor, or as someone who is paid actual money to edit, at least. I'm not sure I'll ever qualify as professional. And also my last as a student; the stresses of third year meaning I missed out on seeing a ton of stuff this year, so it feels like a lot of this year's montage is the same few films. Or at least it does from my perspective. Tbh, these countdowns are getting less stringently structured. Everything from 10 to 25 is basically on the same level of quality, and something being say 19 doesn't make it worse than what's at 12 or 11. Like, love Godzilla Minus One, but it's not really better than Fallen Leaves, just fits better thematically with The Boy And The Heron.

Regardless, cheers if you do actually watch these each year. Here's 2024.
