#Part 1 of a motorcycle design series in fusion360, setting up the skeleton of the bike and attaching the first component.
I am an ex-motorcycle frame design engineer just having fun and sharing some knowledge.
I will be designing a sports style motorcycle so I will be using the appropriate geometry...maybe oversized to make it more suitable for larger riders...
Please follow along and design the bike that YOU want to and share your work as we progress!
Geometry Typical Ranges
Rake Angle
Sports: Around 24°
Cruiser: Around 32°
Adventure touring: Around 30°
Wheelbase
1200-1700mm
Calculations:
Rear Wheel Radius =
Convert 17" diameter to mm. 431.8, half for radius = 215.9
Tyre size 180/55 means:
The tyre is 180mm wide, and the height is 55% of the width, 99mm.
Radius = 215.9+99 = 314.9mm (Diameter 629.8mm)
Front Wheel Radius =
Convert 17" diameter to mm. 431.8, half for radius = 215.9
Tyre size 120/70 means:
The tyre is 120mm wide, and the height is 70% of the width, 84mm.
Radius = 215.9+84 = 299.9mm (Diameter 599.8mm)
