Happy New Year!
Here is what New Year's Day looked like 30 years ago in Los Angeles. This is taped from the Tournament of Roses Parade, on KTLA (channel 5). As the thumbnail shows, KTLA was on tap to become a WB affiliate in 10 days, when the new network launched as competition for the Big Four networks, along with UPN.
KTLA just aired the 2025 parade this morning, its 136th edition. Among the personnel who appeared in the pre-parade segment on this tape is Sam Rubin, who unfortunately died from a heart attack back in May. Rubin was KTLA's entertainment reporter and a fixture on the station's morning newscast since its launch in 1991.
