When I was a kid, I remember we had a jetski racing game that we would love to play all the time and it was one of my first introductions to video games very early on in my life. Unfortunately, one unforgettable night, some criminals entered our house and stole many valuables while we slept. Some of those things included our Playstation 1 and many games, including Wave Race 64.

Even though there are those bad memories with losing that game, the nostalgia and love for the game is even more powerful. It felt good playing this game after so many years and it feeling new yet familiar. There is no better feeling than summertime, with the bright blue skies, the wind blowing, the sun rays shining and the waves of the ocean crashing down the shore. This game, especially the first stage, is full of those summertime vibes and it was perfect now that we’re in the middle of summer.

The title theme itself is perfect for my style, which is an 80s rock tune in its essence, so the transition to my playing was flawless. It even has the song structure of many of the songs in that genre. A verse, a pre-chorus, and a chorus, so it was mostly a complete song already. So I composed a guitar solo and an interesting breakdown part with another solo that was varied from the chorus melodies to transition to the ending chorus. It was also enjoyable working with the harmoniesx making the guitars sing together and getting that big harmonic sound that was huge in the 80s.

Overall, the title theme of Wave Race 64 was a perfect introduction to the game itself and it was a pleasure to bring this song to life, as well as the good memories of playing this game with my brothers. Rock on!
