മംഗലാപുരത്തേക്കുള്ള യാത്രക്ക് ഇടയിൽ കാസർഗോട്ടെ മനോഹരമായ ഒരു റിസോർട്ടിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ താമസിച്ചു. അവിടെ ബ്രേക്ക്ഫാസ്റ്റിന് ഒരു പുതിയ ഐറ്റം കണ്ടു. ചാളൻ പൊളിച്ചത്. കാസർകോടിന് തനതായ പല തരം വിഭവങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്. അതിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇത്. അപ്പം പോലെ സോഫ്റ്റ് ആയി ഇരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ഐറ്റം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ എന്നറിയണ്ടേ? വീഡിയോ കണ്ടു നോക്കൂ. ഇലയിൽ വിളമ്പിയ നാടൻ ഊണും കാണാം. On our way to Mangalore, we had a short halt in Kasaragod. From there, we got to taste a traditional breakfast recipe of Kasaragod. It was a special dish prepared in that village. We had a delicious banana leaf lunch too. Breakfast and lunch in the backdrop of marvelous backwaters! It was a wonderful experience.

കായലിനോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള ഒരു റിസോർട്. അവിടെ ഒരു ചെറിയ കോട്ടേജിൽ ആണ് ഞങ്ങൾ താമസിച്ചത്. രാവിലെ തോണിക്കാരുടെ താളം കേട്ടുണർന്നു. കാസർഗോട്ടെ ആ ദിവസത്തിൻ്റെ തുടക്കം തന്നെ ഭംഗിയായി. ചാളൻ പൊളിച്ചത് എന്ന ഒരു സ്പെഷ്യൽ ഐറ്റം ബ്രെക്ഫാസ്റ്റിനായി ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നു എന്ന് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അത് എന്താവും എന്ന് വല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ആകാംഷ തോന്നി. മുട്ടവെള്ള പതപ്പിച്ചു അത് കൊണ്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയ അപ്പം ആണ് ഈ ചാളൻ. കൂടെ കഴിക്കാൻ തേങ്ങാപ്പാലിൽ പഞ്ചസാര ചേർത്തതും. എന്റെ ഊഹം തെറ്റിയില്ല. സ്വാദ് അടിപൊളി തന്നെ. കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ദോശയും പൂരിയും എല്ലാം ഇവന്റെ മുന്നിൽ നിഷ്പ്രഭരായി.
ഉച്ചയൂണിന്റെ തയ്യാറെടുപ്പുകൾ കാണാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ അടുക്കളയിൽ കയറി. മീനും അവിയലും സാമ്പാറും അങ്ങനെ ഒത്തിരി ഒത്തിരി വിഭവങ്ങൾ. ഇലയിൽ വിളമ്പിയ ഊണും ആസ്വദിച്ചു കഴിച്ചു. എനിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടം ആയതു കരിമീൻ വറുത്തതും പുളിയിഞ്ചിയും ആണ്. പക്ഷെ ഭക്ഷണത്തേക്കാളും അന്ന് ഞാൻ ആസ്വദിച്ചത് കായലും വള്ളങ്ങളും തെങ്ങുകളും ആയി ആ ഗ്രാമീണസൗന്ദര്യം ആണ്.
I enjoyed our stay at Oyster Opera Resort in Kasaragod. It has a beautiful location close to backwaters. When I woke up in the morning, there was only the sound of birds and passing canoes to be heard. Here, we tasted a unique dish called Chaalan Polichathu. It was a surprise to me that egg whites could be beaten into such soft and yummy appams. Lunch served in banana leaf was good too. Watch the video for this experience.
