Te Marua to Featherston via SH2 over the Kaitoke and Remutaka Hills, New Zealand.
Hand-held back seat camera footage recorded by my friend Gavin on 26th January 2003.
Dashcam footage recorded on 7th December 2024.
The two videos were cropped, then played back stacked one above the other, with no window decorations --- and recorded off the screen during playback, manually pausing one or other of the two videos as required to keep them roughly synchronised.
Some parts of the road were rebuilt in a different location, so they look completely different for a while. In particular, the Kaitoke Hill (the first six minutes) part of the road was rebuilt on new deviations. Also approaching Remutaka summit from about 12:10 was rebuilt with enormous new cuttings, sharp curves eliminated, and a steeper grade.
There is no audio track.
