The Top 30 songs with 5 extras by Elton John, Styx, Little River Band, George Benson and Wham! from the 1983 singles charts of Billboard and Cash Box magazines for weeks ending September 10, 17, 24 and October 1.

Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), in which a weighted ranking system was used, I used a simple reverse ranking system, assigning 1 point to No. 30, 2 points to No. 29, etc. I kept it simple since we’re dealing with four weeks rather than a longer duration, like a year.

*1983 Rank given to the three songs leaving the charts is an average of those songs’ year-end rankings from Joel Whitburn, Billboard magazine, Fred Bronson, Bill Carroll and Cash Box magazine.
