A pretty shaky video of the "long langstroth" hive I have been experimenting with. We showed this vid at the last NEOBA meeting and it raised a lot of interest, especially in people who have a hard time lifting heavy boxes of honey. Essentially the long lang has all the advantages of a top bar (KTBH) hive, and none of the disadvantages. I have both kinds, and the long lang is the hands-down winner between the two. As I have always said, the top bar hive was designed for people with NO resources--by that I mean no decent lumber, no skilled carpenters, no Nuttin. It always mystifies me that Americans, with plenty of resources, want to try keeping bees in a top bar hive--I have worked with top bars extensively, here and in Africa, and given their many problems, it is ridiculous for Americans to want one (just my honest opinion!).
