Tonight, I’m Brandon Moon, and I’ll guide you through tying the Blue-winged Olive No-see-um Fly—a top-tier Utah fly fishing pattern introduced by Fly Fish Food and crafted by Phil Bear. This fly mimics midges and mayflies, sitting low in the water column for max effectiveness! 🌊✨

Hook & Thread Setup

Start with the Moonlit Premium Toata ML12 Hook 🪝—its wide gape is ideal for dry flies. Begin threading with SF Waxed Olive to create a smooth underbody.
Tying & Tail Setup

Using Iron Blue Microfibers for a balanced tail, spread and prop up the fibers to mimic natural insect structure 🐜. Color the thread black for a segmented look, perfect for a realistic finish.
Adding the Hackle

Prep a Golden Honey Badger Hackle 🪶 and wrap it tightly to add a textured, layered body. Pull fibers up to form a wing structure for a comparadun-style, low-water presentation.
