🇫🇷 BERGHEIM - The Most Beautiful Village on Christmas, Alsace, France, Walking Tour [4K/60fps]

Bergheim is a French commune located in the administrative district of Haut-Rhin and,
since January 1, 2021, in the territory of the European community of Alsace,
in the Grand Est region.

The town is part of the association Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.
On June 29, 2022, Bergheim was proclaimed 2022 Favorite Village of the French.

The first known name of Bergheim, "Veredum" dates back to the Roman occupation.
This occupation is attested, among other things, by the discovery (in 1848 and in 2006) of two
remarkable mosaics, one visible in the Unterlinden museum in Colmar and the other in the old
Synagogue of Bergheim.

After the Roman era, Bergheim changed lords many times: possession of the Abbey of
Moyenmoutier in Lorraine, then property of the Dukes of Lorraine who gave the city a fief to the
house of Ribeaupierre. In 1313, the Ribeaupierres sold it to the Habsburgs and in the 17th century,
the town passed into the hands of the King of France (1648). Finally, in the 18th century and until
the French Revolution. Bergheim once again became the property of the Ribeaupierre family.

In addition to being a charming medieval city, protected by medieval towers and ramparts, Bergheim is a wine-growing city.
The first known mention of vines in Bergheim appears in a Carolingian charter of July 25, 768. Since 1983, Bergheim has had two Grands Crus:

The old ossuary, now 5 Place de l'Eglise. The current building from 1550 housed the second ossuary of Bergheim and was a school for boys from 1767 to 1970. At the back of the house is the Jardin des Simples. The House of Witches recounts the trials for witchcraft from 1582 to 1683, recorded in the municipal archives
