This is the easiest and most thorough video on how to saber a bottle of champagne, how to do it safely step-by-step, and I included a little bit of history and how the party trick dates back to Napoleon. Did you know that the type of sparkling wine you choose matters, as the different types have a different level of pressure inside the bottle? Champagne is always better than Prosecco or Cava, but certainly not necessary if you have the bottle chilled well enough! REMEMBER- NEVER USE THE SHARP SIDE OF A KNIFE! If you see a video like mine, where a saber/sword is used, please understand these are very flat edges and not sharp at all.
We first published this video on our other account, Arte De Vie, but we thought our Paris fans would love to learn this too!
STEPS:
get your bottle of bubbles very well chilled. An unchilled bottle is likely to EXPLODE!
Find the seam of the bottle, there's one on each side
Remove the foil around the next of the bottle.
Untwist the wire cage and raise it just above the wide lip of the bottle and re-tighten. I always line up the twisty part of the cage with the seam of the bottle so it's easy to know where to slide the knife.
If you don't have an official saber, grab your heaviest weighted kitchen knife.
With your non-knife hand, insert your thumb into the bottom divot of the bottle to hold it, and make sure the seam is facing you.
Pointing the bottle away from your friends, and using the NON-SHARP side of your knife, quickly slide it from the base of the bottle, following through and being sure to not pause or stop when you hit the lip of the bottle, and watch the cork shoot off with a clean break of the glass!
Quickly get a glass under the bottle to catch the little bit of juice that will bubble out :)
Enjoy your bubbles and being the hit of the party!
NOTE: There is no reason to be concerned about any shards of GLASS being in your drink. The force is so strong that it blows away any little bits of glass that may have been
