Welcome to our series on Reinforced Concrete Design to Eurocode 2.
In this lecture, Topic 3: Doubly Reinforced Concrete Section, Part 1, we explore the design of doubly-reinforced concrete beams and how compression and tension steel work together to resist bending moments.
📌 In this lecture, we:
✅ Explain balanced singly-reinforced sections and limits for ductile failure
✅ Introduce doubly-reinforced sections for moments exceeding the singly-reinforced limit
✅ Show the rectangular stress block model and force equilibrium in doubly-reinforced sections
✅ Discuss top and bottom steel yielding, stress distribution, and design equations
✅ Work through a practical beam example including steel areas, lever arm, and spacing
✅ Highlight minimum spacing and Eurocode 2 reinforcement ratio limits
