जैसे आपको पता है की IVF और ICSI Assisted Reproduction की तकनीक है और जिसमें लेबोरेटरी में बने हुए embryo transfer किये जाते है। इसके बाद embryo implant हो जाता है। अक्सर जब ये patient ट्रीटमेंट शुरू करने आते है तब उनके दिमाग में चिंता रहती है की ये ट्रीटमेंट करने के बाद में उनको twins होने की सम्भावना है।

जब embryos laboratory में बढ़ रहे होते है , तो इन embryos को modern techniques द्वारा , day 5 या blastocyst embryo तक grow करने की कोशिश करते है। उसमे से जो भी उस स्टेज तक पोहोचते है उन embryos को transfer किया जाता है।

Patients को चुनने का अवसर दिया जाता है की एक ही embryo transfer करना है या दो embryos transfer करना है। जब पेशेंट्स डॉक्टर के ऊपर embryo transfer छोड़ देते है तब ज्यादातर क्लीनिक में डॉक्टर दो embryo transfer कर देते है। ये डॉक्टर इसीलिए करते है क्युकी गर्भारोपण की संभावना थोड़ी बोहोत बढ़ जाए।

कभी कभी जब ये दो embryos डाले जाते है , तब दोनों के दोनों implant हो जाते है। जिसके वजहसे से पेशेंट को twins हो जाते है। जभ्भी २ embryos transfer करने होते है , उससे पहले डॉक्टर्स , पेशेंट्स के मंजूरी में लिखित में लेके signature लेते है की पेशेंट ने दो embryo डालने की मंजूरी दी है।
ये इसलिए क्योकि Single pregnancy के तुलना में Twin Pregnancy रिस्की होती है। इसका कारन यह है की :
Pre -Term delivery हो सकती है।
Baby underweight हो सकता है।

हमेशा दो embryos transfer करने के बाद गारंटी नहीं है की twins ही होगा। दो मेसे एक ही embryo implant हो सकता है। दूसरा embryo अपने आप शरीर में absorb हो जाता है या dissolve हो जाता है।

बोहोत बार ऐसा होता है की दो embryo transfer होने के बावजूद भी single pregnancy हो सकते है। IVF में जब दो embryos transfer किये जाते है तब twinning rate 30-35% होती है। पेशेंट single embryo भी transfer कर सकता है।
