Throchi Fort History

In this video we will show you approximately 600 years old, historical but deserted “Throchi Fort” which is situated between the deep and dangerous ditches on the top of a mountain. This fort was constructed by the Prime Minister and Commander In chief of Army, Malik Masood Thakur in 1425 in the era of the 8th Sultan of Kashmir, Ghias-U-Din Zain-Ul-Abideen Alias Buddh Shah. Many maze type’s rooms, watch tower, ponds of water, well and a dark, narrow and terrible jail was constructed in this fort. An old Chilla Gah is also present in this fort which relates to a Sufi Saint. Another tradition is that this fort was constructed in 1460. The fort which was made on the top of a mountain has 3700 feet height from sea level. This fort was constructed for the purpose to observe the activities of enemy around. The grain was also stored in this fort so that the lack of grain can be fulfilled in drought. Mughals included Kashmir State in Mughal Empire in 1586. This is the reason a tradition is that this fort was constructed by Mughals but this tradition do not admit authentic. Maharaja Ranjit Singh attacked on Throchi Fort in 1809 and Mangrals was defeated in this attack than the fort went in the custody of Sikhs. After the division of 1947, Col Mahmood Khan Mangral independent this fort from Dogra Army with the help of 11 K Battalion and local people in 1948. The soldiers of Dogra Army ran away with drape swings from mountain gorge towards River Poonch on the west side of Throchi Fort but the Pakistan Army caught these soldiers after chase on the point of Darya near Juna on the way of Jammu where a harsh fight took place and many soldiers of Dogra Army were killed. This fort is situated in Gulpur village District Kotli of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Now this Throchi Fort is under control of Pakistan Army but this fort is open for tourists. The structure of this fort resembles to Ramkot Fort. Throchi Fort was constructed with stone bricks and lime that is the reason this fort is still stand on its place after pass many centuries due to its well built. But the condition of this fort is wretched as like the other forts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Earthquakes and other disasters damaged this fort generally therefore the walls of this fort have fallen from different sides. This is famous about this historical fort is that this is haunted and mysterious many ghost things have watched here in night time but they do not harm to anyone.
