Roberto Bertero at the great Bonato-Klais organ in Villasanta (Italy), performs Hans Zimmer's "Chevaliers de Sangreal" excerpt from the soundtrack composed for the film "The Da Vinci Code”, in the lovely organ transcription by Anna Lapwood.
The piece, in Zimmer's original orchestration, is built on the contrast between ascending ostinatos, suspended harmonies, and a gradual buildup of intensity that leads to a moment of sonic liberation: here the organ becomes both a solemn voice and a mystical landscape, capable of immediately conveying both the mystery and grandeur of the theme.
It is worth remembering that the film from which the piece originates has sparked discussion in Christian and Catholic circles, as it proposes narrative hypotheses that are not in line with Church doctrine.
This performance, therefore, does not refer to the film's supposed "theological" content, nor does it intend to support it: it focuses exclusively on the musical value of the piece, because Zimmer's music - regardless of its cinematic destination - possesses an extraordinary ability to evoke atmospheres of soul-searching!
The organ, sacred instrument par excellence, thanks to its broad tonal palette, allows the listener to experience a profound emotional and sonic experience.
This version therefore aims to offer independent listening, open to all, based solely on the expressive power of Zimmer's music.
Best regards to Anna Lapwood for this wonderful transcription!
