Blue Lagoon has proactively chosen to temporarily suspend operations for one week, despite the authorities not raising the current level of uncertainty during this period of seismic activity. This affects all of our operations at Blue Lagoon, Silica Hotel, Retreat Spa, Retreat Hotel, Lava, and Moss Restaurant.


The closure will take effect on November 9 and will continue until 07:00 on November 16.The Blue Lagoon is a famous geothermal spa located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland. It is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland and is renowned for its milky blue, mineral-rich waters. Here are some key points about the Blue Lagoon:



Geothermal Origin: The Blue Lagoon is not a natural hot spring but rather a man-made lagoon. It is fed by the water output from the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant. The water is rich in silica, algae, and minerals, which are believed to have therapeutic properties for the skin.
