EF2000 • Gravis Ultrasound SFX/Music

EF2000 was one of the games that supported Gravis Ultrasound board. I never witnessed it in action so decided to try it out. This is probably the first video on YT that shows EF2000 working with Gravis Ultrasound.

The sound effects are basically the same as Sound Blaster 16. It seems it doesn't utilize full potential of Gravis card (like 44kHz sampling). The midi music sounds pretty good, a nice upgrade from FM synth of early Sound Blaster cards which didn't came with dedicated wavetable ROM chips.

For this sortie I'm flying 3rd mission of a campaign (though this will not be a part of the ongoing campaign playthrough) - those strike missions are pretty hard when enemy interceptors show up... The missile spam was real. At least the refueling was pretty cool - shows how much AI traffic is around during the dynamic campaign. There were other flights refueling before and after my flight, and it isn't scripted - it's procedural, they had their own tasks to fullfill and needed gas to do it.

For my next EF2000 video I will probably showcase the CD redbook audio next, so stay tuned.
