I’ve got two new uniquely barreled Bourbons for us to take a look at!
The first is Ironroot’s new double-barreled bourbon created by master distiller Jonathan Likarish for his mom (Marcia Likarish aka the “Mother of Texas Whiskey”) in honor of Mother’s Day. The Mother of Texas Whiskey edition will retail around $45-$49 in can be purchased at the Distillery beginning May 3rd and then at most Texas retail stores hopefully right before Mother’s Day (may 11th). It’s a blend of sourced Indiana & Kentucky column distilled bourbons that we age up further here in Texas before being combined with some of Ironroot’s viscous grain-to-glass pot still bourbon. That blend is then allowed to marry a while before being barreled again (“double-barreled”) into either new American, European, or Hybrid Oak barrels (which is a combo of American oak staves with European oak heads) for even more depth and complexity. Jonathan selected American & Hybrid oak barrels for this limited edition that received only mechanical filtration (just removes char) and was bottled at a very easy drinking 92 proof.
The second is Penelope’s “Marshmallow Toast” that retails between $70-$90. It’s made from a combination of 3 bourbon mash bills all reported to be 4 years old. They were aged in barrels that received a Char 1, Heavy Toast treatment at the cooperage and bottled at 110 proof. Here in N. Texas, they did garner a little hype as they didn’t last but a week or two here on shelves. Fortunately, the secondary markets are a little calmer as I see them selling for only around $115-$125 there. So, if you’re lucky, these will still be on shelves near you, and at $70-$90 I think they’re a good buy.
As of May 2025, my current bottle count is over 3,000. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been accredited by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for 31 years and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into this collection and career. Speaking of my career, I’m super proud to announce that my “Saints Alley “Nobleman” Rye Whiskey was named “Best American Rye” at the 2024 World Whisky Awards! But don’t forget that our other Bourbons have also won multiple big awards and are on Total Wine shelves now! Our Flagship Port & Cognac received a Double Platinum at Fred Minnick's 2024 Ascot Awards, and "The Herald” - our Armagnac finished Bourbon - took Double Gold at the Whiskies of the World competition! Stay tuned for my 10 Year Saints Alley Herald Cigar Blend coming fall of 2025! Given my decades of consumer/reviewer experience, you know I’m working hard to continue bringing you great whiskeys that I'm proud of as a collector, reviewer & blender! Thank you for watching & please remember to drink responsibly. Cheers!
