１週間ぶりにシロ一家のもとを訪ねてみると、いつも一家がいる場所には誰もいませんでした。しばらく歩き回った末にようやくシロが現れてくれたのですが、子供たちの姿がありません。シロも落ち着きがなく、明らかにいつもと様子が違います。あたりを捜し歩いても、チャコとクロコの姿を見かけることはありませんでした。しばらくするとシロが池の際に行って水面をじっと見ている姿が目にとまりました。危険な池の際までわざわざ行くというのは、賢い母猫シロの行動としては初めて見るものでした。やがて池の際から戻ってきたシロですが、高い場所に移動すうと、ずっと池を見続けるのでした。まさか子供たちが転落した？そんなこと絶対にありませんように！今まで子猫たちは姿を消したように見えても、しばらくするとシロの元に帰ってきていたので、今回も、何もなかったように元気な姿を見せてくれるはず、そう願うばかりです。

When I visited the Shiro family for the first time in a week, I couldn't find them where the family usually is. After walking around for a while, Shiro finally appeared, but the children were gone. The mother cat was also restless, and her behavior was clearly different from usual. I looked around, but did not see Chako or Kuroko. After a while, I caught sight of Shiro walking to the edge of the pond and staring at the surface of the water. It was the first time I had ever seen Shiro, a smart mother cat, go all the way to the edge of a dangerous pond. She eventually returned from there and moved to a higher place, but kept staring at the pond. Did the children fall in? I desperately hope that's not true! Even though the kittens seemed to have disappeared, they always came back to their mom after a while, so I can only hope that this time, too, they will appear as healthy as if nothing had happened to them.
