Scottish Wild Camping | CAPE WRATH TRAIL | Hiking In Scotland

In September 2023 we set off on a mission to hike The Cape Wrath Trail! My friend Steve turned 77 years old this year and decided the best time to walk the Cape Wrath Trail would be sooner rather than later!

Hiking in Scotland is one of my great loves along with some beautiful Scottish wild camping! 🏕️ So I was more than happy to help him realise one of his bucket list dreams.

How long does it take to walk the Cape Wrath Trail?

The trail is just over 230 miles long, so we initially set ourselves a goal of trying to hike from the starting point Camusnagaul (across the water from Fort William) upto the Cape Wrath lighthouse in 21 days.

I have completed multiple long distance hiking trails, both in the UK and abroad, so knew we would need to spend some time planning the logistics. Some things, however you cannot plan for…. Like sudden changes in the weather! We cartainly got thrown some unexpected curve balls on our Cape Wrath adventure!

I have to say, so far it is already one of the most scenic Scottish hiking trails I have started, with some beautiful wild camping spots.
