The logistics of moving to Japan can be daunting. There's a thousand things to do, and it took me well over two months to go from 'moving' to 'living in Kyoto. I had a lot of help along the way.
Going through a transition this big was as tiring as it was rewarding. In the end, my first fall in Kyoto was profoundly taxing but it enabled me to start my new life living in a beautiful city in a beautiful part of the world.
It was also a large change: I hadn't lived anywhere in a stable, ongoing sense for half a decade, so adjusting to a stationery life prompted a lot of reflection. I am very grateful to live here, and with the benefit of hindsight, I can say I am so grateful to my former self for pushing through the difficult parts so I can now enjoy the beautiful side of living in Kyoto.
