During the long weekend right after the Noto earthquake, I came to Beniya Mukayu after a stay in Hida.

I had checked in advance that the hotel would not be affected by the earthquake, but when I asked about it at check-in, I was told that the impact of the earthquake was indeed serious and cancellations were occurring one after another. I like a wide range of hotels, from hidden hot springs to luxury inns, but I always check out hotels that focus on art and modernism. Beniya Mukayu, which has the most minimalist atmosphere in the Hokuriku region, is a hot spring inn that I have wanted to stay at for a long time.

The first thing that surprised me was the size of the facility. The large amount of space, despite the 16 guest rooms, is simply amazing. You can spend your time leisurely without feeling any distance from other people. Contemporary art works are displayed in the calculated space, making the building feel like a museum.

Some of the works were exhibited at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa.

The mountain garden is a magnificent moss-covered garden. It's so difficult to decide where to spend your time. It is an inn where time passes quickly.

The large public bath, which was renovated in 2023, is also an artistic space. I was amazed at the way the bamboo forest was designed as art. The bamboo forest seen from the sauna is also artistic.

For meals, you can enjoy seasonal Kano crab. One of the reasons I chose this place was that I wanted to try really delicious crab. Kano crab is a brand crab of Kaga. I learned what truly delicious crab is. In addition, the menu other than crab, such as blackthroat seaperch rice, had a strong presence, and it was a great dinner that I never got bored of until the end.

Artistic inns may not be to everyone's taste. Those who prefer traditional inns may find it unsatisfying. However, I think it will be a great inn that will be irresistible for those who love art and architecture.
