DISCLAIMER: This video is a documentary shared for educational and cultural purposes only. It does not promote or encourage the use of any psychoactive substances. Wachuma (San Pedro) is a sacred plant medicine traditionally used in Indigenous ceremonial practices across the Andes. This content is presented with deep respect for these traditions and in accordance with the legal context of this practice in Peru.
Wachuma, also known as San Pedro, is a sacred psychoactive cactus medicine native to the Andes that has been used by indigenous cultures for thousands of years.
Its Quechua name, Wachuma, or Huachma means “to remove the head,” symbolizing the removal of the ego and the opening of the heart.
This plant is considered a master teacher and healer, offering clarity, connection, and profound insights.
The cactus contains mescaline, a naturally occurring psychoactive compound known for its ability to induce altered states of consciousness—heightening sensory perception, expanding awareness, and fostering a deep connection with nature.
Wachuma can be psychedelic, but unlike other plant medicines, it's often described as gentle and heart-centered, helping you feel grounded and open rather than overwhelmed.
Its effects can last anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, and traditionally, the cactus is prepared by boiling its flesh for hours to create a thick ceremonial brew.
In this video, my friends and I were guided by Maestro Alceides, to experience this sacred plant medicine in the breathtaking mountains of the Sacred Valley.
Thank you so much to Arkana Spiritual Center for having us and allowing us the opportunity to document an experience like this. It’s truly an honor and privilege.
In full transparency, this video is not sponsored by Arkana. They invited me to come visit their center in the Amazon and the Sacred Valley with no expectation for me to create or share anything. But after spending a week at the Arkana center in the Amazon, I was so incredibly inspired to create and share stories about my experience.
I do not encourage consuming any psychoactive substance in a recreational or unsupervised way. And I certainly do recommend plant medicine for everyone. It is something you need to feel called to and it may not be right for you. If you do feel the call, I highly encourage you to do your own research.
From my personal experience, I feel that Arkana holds the medicine in beautiful and sacred way and deeply supports the Indigenous Maestros and Maestras to share their gifts with more people who need this work.
So if you want to visit Arkana, I have a referral code for you. This is not something I was planning to offer going into this, but I had such a wonderful experience and would love to share this gift with anyone who feels called to go.
