Luxor. On the western bank of the Nile, we can find the most iconic ancient sites like the temples of Hatshepsut, Ramesses III, and Ramesses II, as well as the famous necropolis - the Valley of the Kings. As you can find episodes about all these ancient gems on my channel, this time, I want to take you to those lesser-known, rarely visited temples at the Western Thebes (somewhat in the shadow of their famous neighbors).

We explore the temple of Deir el-Shelwit dedicated to Isis, where you learn more about its history, architecture as well as about… bats. Then we’ll drive through the desert to take a sneak peek into Malkata, which once constituted the most splendid pharaonic palace complex. In the temple of Qasr el-Aguz, we will see different stages of creating reliefs, and you get to know more about the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom - Thoth. We will then head to the temple of Merenptah (the son, and successor of Ramesses the Great) and see the famous stele. Why is it famous? I will tell you about that too!

The last, but definitely not least, will be the largest mortuary temple in Thebes. Do you know whom it belonged to? Join me in this great adventure!
