After visiting the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition held in downtown Thomaston in 2019, I was intrigued with the long history surrounding Thomaston and Upson County. Seeing the loss of some of our more iconic structures, I decided to take on a project to share some of our historical treasures and contrast what they looked like in the past compared to what we see today as seen from my drone's perspective. This is my second attempt to do just that so I hope you enjoy it.
Many Thanks to the Thomaston Upson Archives for providing me the historical photos used on this project. You can visit them on the web at
Thomastonupsonarchives.org
Or in person at:
301 S. Center St.
Thomaston, Ga., 30286
Without the help of Kay Hightower, many of these original photos would not be available to share. A special thank you to her for making their use possible.
It was very difficult to condense so much history into just a few slides and still make it "watchable". If you want to learn more, here are a few links containing additional background information.
