ABC World News Tonight aired on June 16, 1979. Ann Compton reports on congressional hearings into the exposure of U.S. soldiers and miners to atomic radiation, and subsequent cancer cases. Declassified report suggests the government knew the risks of exposure but did not notify or protect the soldiers or miners. The story includes an appearance by Sen. Edward Kennedy and the widows of several miners who died of cancer. ABC's Frank Reynolds also appears. From the archives of the UCLA Department of Communication. Digitized 2023.
