Former Legalistic Couple Empowered to Change Africa with God's Love - Mike and Pat Heiser

Not knowing their identity in Christ, Mike and Pat Heiser felt too weak to be qualified for God’s work. Until one day, they came across the teachings of Andrew Wommack, where they learned that they had the power and authority to go across the world and touch more lives than they ever dreamed.

Mike and Pat Heiser didn’t see themselves as having any power or authority. They thought they had to just ask God to do something and hope that He would come through. They felt they were nobodies that God wouldn’t think to use. Pat’s parents shared some of Andrew Wommack’s tapes, and Pat started to consume the teachings and wanted to find a Spirit-filled church. One of Mike’s co-workers recommended Dan Funkhouser’s church, Agape Fellowship. They loved the lively music, dynamic preaching, and they especially liked one Sunday school teacher named Andrew Wommack. Andrew’s teachings that we have authority in Jesus were a new revelation for Mike, and he started to see real blessings in his own life because of this message.

Years later, God opened the door for Mike and Pat to go to Charis Bible College in Grandview, MO. It was there that they met a Kenyan couple who would later present them with the opportunity to share God’s love halfway across the world in Meru, Kenya. Before reading Andrew’s book, The Believer’s Authority, Mike and Pat never would have believed that they could do something like this. But once they got a hold of the message, they knew that God qualifies them, they don’t qualify themselves. So, they packed up and, without any support, they left for Kenya.

They started out helping single mothers in need of food, which turned into a Bible study. That study grew into a church, which eventually developed into a Bible college. Mike and Pat visited the States and spoke with Andrew Wommack, who provided curriculum and books for them to bring back to the school. The Swahili word for Grace is Neema, so they decided to name the school Neema Bible College. Their first year, they graduated 9 students, but by 2015 they graduated 108! Over the years, they’ve graduated over 700 students, with 15 locations across Kenya.

Along with the churches and Bible schools, the Heisers started a different type of discipleship inside their own home. Seeing children in desolate situations, Mike and Pat began taking children off the streets and bringing them into their home, saving them from prostitution, abuse, and relatives selling them into slavery. They’ve seen their children healed from diseases, and their lives prolonged well past the young expected deaths that many children on the streets suffer. Their children are growing up with God and learning who they are and what they can do in Him.

Because of Andrew’s faithfulness to share the message that God gave him, Mike and Pat’s lives were changed, their children know their identity in Christ, and the effects are spreading throughout Kenya, the rest of Africa, and even into the Middle East.
