A P40 and Dash 8 Lead the "Auto Train"

The holiday rush stretched Amtrak's ageing fleet of P42's pretty thin, so they actually had to pull several classic B32-8WH diesels from their regular switching/work train duties to help bridge the gap. They've been spread out across the system, but 508 and 514 have been floating around pretty consistently in Florida service for the past two months or so. I caught 514 in the rain a few weeks back on a Silver Service train, but I continued to hold out for a sunny and/or Auto Train catch, too. The Auto Train service has been severely out of sync for the past week or so after a northbound run was delayed by nearly 8 hours. As a result, it worked out that this late-running northbound came through Fredericksburg in the early afternoon, perfectly timed for a sunny shot of these classic Amtrak diesels.
