NARROWBOAT DIARIES | EPISODE 17 -JOURNEY'S END & BACK TO THE COTSWOLDS!

If you already know us from our YouTube channel 'Roaming The Cotswolds', you’re in for a brand new journey! This Autumn, we’re swapping rolling Cotswolds hills for winding canals and setting off on an unforgettable narrowboat adventure across Britain's historic canal network. If you are a new viewer to the channel thankyou for finding us and welcome aboard.

At the start of October 2025 we hired a narrowboat starting at Anderton Marina in the north of England undertaking a one way move south exploring 5 different canals to reach Gayton marina in Northamptonshire, a total distance of 126 miles with 88 locks! To add to the challenge we needed to overcome restrictions on the waterways with lock closures due to low water levels. As we began our 2 week journey the Trent and Mersey like many canals was closed after Middlewich forcing us to take a even longer route using the Middlewich branch and the Shropshire Union canals although there were rumours the Canal and River Trust were about to change all that. Basically we had no idea if we could follow our quickest route or have to go even faster via detours.

Thursday October 16th 2025
In Episode 17 our 2 week cruise from Anderton Marina to Gayton Marina finally coms to a end as we cruise just a few miles from our mooring at Blisworth back to Gayton. Its been a wonderful 2 weeks navigating 5 separate canal networks along 126 miles and passing through 88 locks often racing against the clock to beat the lock closures. We've seen some stunning countryside with amazing Autumn colours and as usual with us two we have enjoyed quite a few canalside pubs too..and met some lovely people including our lock buddy Paul on his boat Dragon Heart. Special shout out to all the CRT volunteer lockies too along the way for all you do to help us boaters get where we need to be and to ABC Boat Hire for once again lending us a beautiful boat and all the help with route planning and toilet emptying! Finally a massive thankyou to every one who has watched the videos and subscribed to the channel.
All the very best and hopefully see you again soon not Roaming The Waterways but Roaming The Cotswolds again.
