Fat Thursday or in German: Weiberfastnacht ("Women's Carnival") is the start of street carnival every February. It starts at 11:11 with a big party and concerts at Alter Markt (Old Market) and Heumarkt. There's no parade on this day but the whole city centre of Cologne turns into a party hotspot with people in customs, drinking alcohol and celebrating.
The day is followed by five another carnival days including Rose Monday (Rosenmontag) as the main day with the biggest carnival parade in Cologne and some other smaller parades on the other days.
The official greeting phrase on these days is "Kölle Alaaf!" what literally means something like Cologne above everything else.
