The beautiful and inspirational Berlioz composition “Sanctus” is sung with devotion and sincerity by Tony Sandler and the St. Cecilia Singing Nuns Chorale. “Sanctus” was part of Hector Berlioz’ monumental work, the “Grande des Morts (Requiem) Op. 5. It was composed in 1837 and appreciated for its immense scale, mood and innovative construction. The hymn displays a lovely glimpse of Heaven speaking the phrase Sanctus many times indicating the mood of the holiness of Heaven derived from the Book of Isaiah chapter 6, verse 3. In English it speaks “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest.”
The translation of the lyrics of the hymn reads Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth…Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua,,,,Heaven and earth are full of Your glory
Hosanna in excelsis….Hosanna in the highest
