The Placerville Branch was started in 2010. Inspiration came from the SP branchline that ran from Brighton to Placerville, CA. It is the oldest standard gauge line west of the Mississippi. This version represents the branch as it might have looked in the 1930’s, although most railside industries on the layout came from or were inspired by its 100 year plus history and aren’t time dependent. The line was best known for its sugar pine shipments from the Michigan-California Lumber Co., or Mich Cal, but the branch also shipped fruit in season, and 40 car PFE trains were not unheard of. Before Highway 50 was built the Placerville branch served the western Sierra slope communities with shipments incoming and outgoing. Before the end of 1937 passenger service existed on the branch in the form of a twice daily McKeen car east and west bound out of Sacramento. The Placerville branch will be published in the upcoming Kalmbach’s Great Model Railroads. Website: http://theplacervillebranch.blogspot....
