This week’s episode of The Dough Necessities was all about the donuts you find in gas stations, grocery stores, and your grandma’s pantry; and who better to join us again than Ben Lee, aka DonutCritic on Instagram!

We took on a sweet challenge and taste-tested five classic brands: Entenmann’s, Hostess, Franz, Tastykake, and Duchess.

From the first bite, it was clear we were in for a sugar-fueled adventure. Ben brought the flavor breakdowns, I brought the nostalgia, and together we ranked everything from crumbly powdered rings to rich chocolate-glazed circles of joy.

What made this episode extra fun was discovering just how wildly different these donuts really are. Some were surprisingly moist and flavorful, while others... let's just say they peaked in the '90s.

*We laughed, we cringed, we debated whether freshness even matters when you're dunking a donut in coffee at 2 a.m. Ben even dropped some hot takes for us.
