Fixing a Terrible Lawn Part 2 (Couch/Bermuda) Top Dress & Fertilise

At the start of week 2 I got told that I will have to be away from home for a long time with efforts to stop Covid-19 spreading. Not ideal, but my job is my priority.

So the situation has forced my hand a bit and I have had to compromise on a lot of things. I wanted to loosen up the ground a bit more and get on top of the irrigation situation but I had to go with adding some new soil to level and refresh the area. the soil was really rutted nd is in terrible nick.

I got to the unwanted grasses with glyphosate. The bow and arrow herbicide for the bindii is working well. I just wish I had a bit more time with the lawn before putting top dress down but every day here was an uncertainty, I could have been sent to border patrol any day, so I just got the soil in and put it down.

I levelled with a soil spreader and in just a couple of days, the lawn is starting to grow through the crust already.

I certainly don't recommend people put such a large amount of top dress in autumn but I also need to make this lawn easy for the family to look after while I am away so this is also part of the plan.

As I say in the video, I have decided not to do the backyard yet because the family needs a bit of greenery to look at and play on. I just attacked the the kikuyu with glyphosate and 3 days in it is showing signs of slowly dying. I am sure that won't be the end of it.
