Sailing life in Gran Canaria brings us not only beautiful anchorages but also a chance to dive into local culture. While anchored in the south of the island, we joined the Santa Águeda festival, a lively celebration of the fishermen traditions of the Canary Islands. The streets filled with music, food, and laughter as locals dressed in traditional clothing pulled carriages through the village and turned every corner into a spontaneous concert. Being part of this raw and heartfelt tradition was one of those priceless moments where sailing life connects us with the true spirit of a place.

We are full-time boat people, sailing a Hallberg Rassy Rasmus on a journey that has taken us from the Mediterranean Sea, along the coast of Morocco, and now through the Canary Islands as we continue island hopping and exploring remote sailing destinations. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising.
