Good morning viewers. I'm Dr. Revathi Ramaswamy from Apollo, Secunderabad. Let us discuss about this most common operation called as hysterectomy or removal of the uterus. First, I would like to share hysterectomy should be the last option in a woman's mind. She must have exhausted all the alternative options for her bleeding problem, for her fibroid problem, for her ovarian cyst problems before removing the uterus and Especially when you're a young woman before 40, please don't think of uterus removal as an option. It should be, in fact, the last option when no other option is possible. Why so? Let me tell you that the ovaries are the source of the most important hormones, estrogens, progesterones, and some testosterone for women. And ovaries die at menopause, which could be for after 46 up to 55 years. But when you remove... the uterus before 40, ovaries die earlier. Why? Because the blood supply of the ovary and the blood supply of the uterus are intertwined in certain areas and when we remove the uterus we compromise the blood supply of the ovaries. So ovaries can fail before, ovaries can develop cysts. So my request to all of you viewers is before 40 don't think of a removal of the uterus unless it is absolutely inevitable. Even after 40, there are so many alternatives like hysteroscopy, like colposcopy, like hormonal therapies. Before removing the uterus, it should be the last thing on your mind. When the doctor says that there are no alternatives apart from removal of the uterus, only then consider hysterectomy. Thank you, friends.
