This was one of the weirder food tours I’ve done in a while.
We kicked things off easy—just some classic roadside satay, grilled over coals, nothing fancy. Then it escalated. Next up was botok tawon—a kind of steamed coconut curry made with actual bee larvae. Sounds insane, but it works. Finally, we wrapped with a salad made from chopped cow nose. Yeah. Cow nose. It’s called karedok kikil in some places, and it’s served cold, mixed with banana stem, tofu, rice, and a spicy shrimp paste dressing.
It’s one of those days where the food gets bizarre the further you go. But that’s half the fun.
