Welcome back! thank you for being here!! I decided to do a new video on the pearl wrecked puddle pour on a white base due to what I feel is a bit of a failure in the previous video. Keep in mind, I don't live alone and I am considerate of my environment consequently I end up painting very early in the morning while everyone but me is sleeping. That is the reason some of my content is set to music with captions. I am making a huge effort to change that behavior in the essense of providing content that you enjoy. The other factor its this; painting is a theraputic process for me and most other people. We paint to relax, destress, exorcise our demons lol and generally because we enjoy the process. There are going to be times when something I paint is captured on video, I'm not talking, I'm in the moment, conentrating and focusing on the process, thoroughly immersed in what I'm doing. Sometimes those videos contain beautiful moments that I want to share. If I can, I make them a short. If I can't, I will post the longer form to capture and express that moment, in it's organic state. I add music to break the silence. If you don't like the music, please feel free to mute it. With all that being said, I appreciate every one of you and what you have to say about my content and I will strive to meet your needs. Please continue to comment and share your thoughts!
In this video, I walk you through a quick tutorial of how to create custom Amsterdam pearl colors from the existing pearl color options. By no means have I discovered all the possibilities but I keep mixing new colors and creating new ones while I explore those possibilities. I always test frequently to see where I'm at, shade wise, during mixing. I test on a black surface to see the shade. Sometimes I get it perfect, sometimes I don't.
About my pouring medium; I discovered it by watching(and listening!) to various other YouTube content providers. I had tried something similar previously with no luck. I have adjusted my own formula based off a great deal of experience and failures. The adjustments I've made are due to consistency, dried results, ability to mix, amount of water needed(which will vary greatly), ease of pouring and many, many other personal preferences. You can and should do the same! What works the best for my painting is 1 part Michaels brand regular gloss gel to 4 parts Flood Floetrol(American version). I start by putting my gloss gel(about 6 ounces) in a one quart container. I measure out 24 ounces of floetrol and add only about 4 ounces to the gloss gel to start. I mix this thoroughly to incorporate well. I then add another 4 oz and mix well again. I add another 4 oz, repeat. At this point the gloss gel is thinned enough to just add the rest of the floetrol but I mix really well, let it set a couple days and mix well again. I try to mix up enough for the entire pouring project that I have planned. You can use this for all types of paint pouring techniques, even swipes and dutch pours. I've done both and the results were gorgeous. I'm flexible like that but I love the color vibrancy and definition you get with this particular formula.
Moving right along here, I mix my base for this video and all puddle pours the same. In this video, I used 1 part Amsterdam titanium white to 7 parts pouring medium and 2 parts distilled water(always distilled!). The consistency you are looking for is thin like heavy cream, not water. You want barely a trace when dripping paint off your mixing stick. I show you exactly what to look for in the video! All puddles are 1 part Amsterdam paint(oxide black for the black puddles, custom pearl mixes for the pearls) to roughly 4 parts pouring medium and 1 part distilled water. The consistency you are looking for when dripping paint from your mixing stick is the drip leaves a small mound and goes right away. 2-3 second trace when you drizzle the paint over the surface of your paint.
