Notes From The Stream:

👉 The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that there is one God.
"Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears." 2 Samuel 7v22

"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus."
1 Timothy 2v5

"One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4v6

👉 The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that within one God there exist three Persons.
1. The baptism of Jesus: (Luke 3v21-22 the Father spoke, Jesus baptized, the Spirit descended)
2. Jesus’ ministry: (Acts 10v38 God anointed, Jesus the anointed, Spirit the anointing)
3. The receiving of the Gentiles: (Ephesians 2v18 access to the Father, through Jesus, and by the Spirit)

👉 The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that the entirety of God is in each Person and each Person is fully God.
The Father is not ⅓ God, the Son is not ⅓ God, and the Spirit is not ⅓ God.
1. The Father is God (1 Peter 1v2, NLT)
2. The Son is God (John 1v1-2, 14, 20v28, Titus 2v13 )
3. The Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5v3-4)

👉 All three Persons of the Trinity have the same essence but each one has a different role when it comes to how God relates to the world.
There is voluntary subordination in the Trinity, in that the Father “sent” the Son (John 6v57), and the Father and the Son “send” the Spirit (John 15v26), and the Spirit will “speak only what He hears.” (John 16v13)

This internal relationship doesn’t deny the deity of any Person of the Trinity. Although Jesus submitted to the Father’s will, He was not less than the Father (He told His disciples that He and His Father were one). While the Spirit only speaks what He hears, that doesn’t make him any less divine.

👉 The Trinity reveals that God is an eternally relational Being.
The idea of the Trinity is an indication that God is not bored or lonely. He is a relational God who made us for relationships. It’s no wonder that God said, “It is not good that man should be alone." It’s all about relationships. It is from a harmonious relationship of 3 persons within the Triune God that we exist, and we were intentionally created for relationships with Him and with others around us.
